So, we've packed most of the day-to-day stuff up, have most everything loaded on the truck, and are solidly on our way for "moving". Couple minor casualties so far, but it doesn't look like anything major. So, with that out of the way -- let's get right down to complaining: The last time I checked, having a "RESERVATION" meant that you actually had a tangible place holder or a confirmed spot in line for something. While this was MY understanding of "reservation", it's clearly different than what UHaul has as a definition of "reservation" . . . . which seems to be something like "You can have what you need, unless there's someone else that also needs the same thing at a similar time. Then, we'll over-book, change your reservation, and tell you at the last possible minute (less than 18 hours from scheduled pickup) that we're competely changing your schedule. And oh yeah, it says 'subject to availability' when you make a reservation, so that means we can overbook whenever we feel like. And oh yeah, nobody can help you in the Corporate office, so you have to call the branch office . . . . who's an independent, and has no control over scheduling (supposedly)." AVOID Uhaul like the plague . . . . this evidently happens all the time. |

If you have the opportunity to move . . . . don't. If you have no choice but to move . . . . I'd still recommend DON'T. New house closes later this month . . . so at the current homestead, it looks like a bomb went off, after a tornado hit, during an earthquake. Yeah, I guess we could pack the day before everything needs to move . . . but where's the fun in that. No events on the near horizon -- too hot. As an added bonus, the whole move thing has things a bit FUBAR . . . <sigh> I really hate moving. |

OKay, so I decided. I need to find someone who offers CoLo or dedicated hosting for something less than a fortune a month. So far, I've been using a Virtual server from GoDaddy . . . which has worked great, but has slowly but surely developed performance problems. Low cost hosting == tons of people who use 'em. Great. So, on the recommendation of a buddy, I got a Virtual from IPower up in Santa Monica. Performance is good, tons of bandwidth . . . . 'cept there seems to be this random problem where the instance dies off. After about a week w/ the support group, I finally find out that there's some weird problem with the host . . . . no clues when it will be fixed. So, not like I know anything about this type of stuff, but their support seems to blow. Cox (still . . . a horrible name for a customer service company) will allow for hosting with a commercial account, but still won't offer anything more than 768k upstream . . . burstable, non RSVPd, non QOSd. Which leads me to finding a colo. Whos got spare rack space? |

So, have I mentioned I need a life? Updates are upcoming for news on the car, events, and otherwise. Sadly, time has been 100% sucked away to work, and almost no time has been available for fun stuff. Gotta keep the bills paid, I guess. In the meanwile, take a look at OCCorvette if you're in the SoCal area and need work done. Sean is just getting his shop set up and ready for business, but it looks like it's going to be a hopping place for things to get done. |

It's after 10:30 pm local . . . . so it's close enough. Hey, it'll probably be the new year by the time you've read this . . . . so we're all good. I've been working on another racing project at LocalTrackDays.com, specifically to track groups and events. As the name implies, I'm going to try and get this available for Nation-wide events . . . . so with any luck, I'll have 2006 events finished up and posted by the end of the weekend. If you know of a local group or any local events, let me know so that I can make sure that they're added to the calendar. |
